Project Summary:
Agriculture plays an essential role in the economies of Romania and the Republic of Moldova. Thus, the CarePlant project aims to obtain non-toxic compounds with role in plant growth regulating in order to improve the production of vegetables, which is a priority not only in the two countries, but also throughout the world. The project opens an innovative interdisciplinary approach by involving teams from Romania and the Republic of Moldova with expertise in chemistry, crystallography and biology. All partners contribute their experience in obtaining, characterizing and testing biological new carboxylic aromatic derivatives as plant growth regulators. The new compounds will be characterized by physicochemical (FTIR-ATR, NMR, MS), thermal (TGA / DSC) and structural (X-ray powder and single crystal diffraction) methods in order to establish the structure, determine the intermolecular interactions and the existence of polymorphic forms. In order to complete the experimental investigations and to obtain complex information about the analyzed molecular system, quantum chemistry calculations will be performed. The effect of the compounds on the rooting of the vegetable seedlings, the germination capacity of the seeds and the plant growth regulation in correlation with photosynthesis and cellular respiration will be studied. The originality of the project consists in obtaining of new compounds with dual biological activity, based on non-toxic components or natural metabolites and testing them as new plant growth regulators.
